Canossian Sisters, are residing at Viegas Vaddo, Arpora, Bardez, Goa. The first house opened in Goa was at Mapusa in 1946. It had a life span of a year and a half and then closed down. The cherished dream of having a house in Goa, the land that saw the first labours of the great Jesuit Missionary, St. Francis Xavier and which still has his incorrupt body, became a reality on 02nd June 1972 when Arpora became the venue of the Canossian presence at the request of Fr. Francis Xavier P. Rebello to extend a helping hand in St. Joseph’s High School, Arpora so as to promote character formation and the family apostolate.  The Sisters shifted three times before deciding on a permanent place. Finally, on 08th April 1973 Canossa Covent was opened with 3 Sisters who were the pioneers. The Sisters continue to teach in the Parish School, visiting families, visit to the hospital, Formation of Lay Canossian, doing Pastoral Activities giving importance to Catechesis. The new Convent was completed in September 1994 and blessed by Raul Gonsalves, Archbishop Patriarch of Goa.
