The Sisters of Canossa Niwas, Antop Hill have been working in the Parish of St. Dominic Savio, Antop Hill, for the last twenty – six years. In 1988 the Sisters started this collaboration with the Salesians at the invitation of Fr. Loddy Pires, the then Provincial of the Salesians of Mumbai Province. The main objective was to serve the Parish Community through the Socio – Pastoral Catechetical Ministry. Our Sisters at present are engaged mainly in Pastoral work and conducting the Nursery classes.
Of late there has been some uneasiness felt by the sisters as the continuity of the Nursery classes was questioned since it is not civilly registered. The Provincial Council, Sr.Maggie Mathew and the team had the occasion to meet Fr. Godfrey D’Souza, Provincial of the Salesians. He spoke of the future development plan of the Parish which would mean a re-location of the Sisters residence. It was also an appropriate time to look at our relevance here in this area.
Taking into consideration this situation the Provincial Council discerned the matter and felt that we need to go to areas where there is a greater need. The time is opportune and the atmosphere is amicable. The Salesian Provincial has accepted the Provincial Council’s proposal to do so. In keeping with the journey of our Institute to be more prophetic. The Lord invites us to move on into more needy and remote areas to make Jesus Known and loved. With due permission from our General, M. Annamaria Babbini the Sisters will withdraw from Antop Hill by April 2015
